1、 Definition of IP protection level

        IP protection grade classifies electrical appliances according to their dust-proof and moisture-proof characteristics. IP protection level is composed of two numbers. The first number represents the ability level of electrical appliances to prevent foreign object intrusion, and the second number represents the tightness of electrical appliances to prevent moisture and waterproof intrusion. The larger the two marked numbers, the higher the protection level. The protection levels represented by the two marked numbers are shown in the table below.

        The protection levels commonly used for communication products are IP 57 (dust-proof and not affected by short-term immersion in water), IP 65 (dust-proof and splash proof water) and IP 67 (dust-proof and not affected by short-term immersion in water). Whether to use IP 65 or IP 67 depends on the actual application and different test standards. IP 67 is not always better than IP 65. Components that meet the IP 67 standard do not necessarily meet the IP 65 standard.

        IP (International Protection) protection grade and waterproof test standard is an international protection and waterproof test standard drafted by IEC (International Electrical Communication).

2、 Connotation of IP protection level

2.1. The first number: anti solid substance level

  • 50mm diameter and larger solid foreign objects. Protect objects with large surface area, such as hands (without protection against intentional intrusion);

  • Protect against solid foreign objects of 12mm diameter and larger. Protect fingers or other objects with a length not exceeding 80mm;

  • Protect against solid foreign objects of 2.5mm diameter and larger. Tools and metal wires with protective diameter or thickness exceeding 2.5mm;

  • Protect against solid foreign objects of 1.0mm diameter and larger. Metal wire or strip with protective thickness greater than 1.0mm;

  • Protect against dust. It is impossible to completely prevent dust from entering, but the amount of dust will not affect the normal operation of the equipment;

  • Impervious to dust. No dust entry.

2.2. The second number: anti liquid substance level

  • Protect water droplets (vertically falling water droplets);

  • Protect against water drops when the equipment is tilted 15 degrees. Water drops falling vertically shall not cause damage;

  • Protect against spilled water. Water splashed from both sides of the vertical line at an angle of 60 degrees shall not cause damage;

  • Protective water spray. When the equipment tilts 15 degrees to the normal position, the water aligned with the equipment from any direction shall not cause damage;

  • Protect against water jetting. The water jet aimed at the equipment from any direction shall not cause damage;

  • Protect against big waves. The amount of water entering the equipment by big waves or strong jet water shall not cause damage;

  • Protect against flooding. When immersed in water under the defined pressure and time, there shall be no water intrusion that can cause damage;

  • Protection against flooding. The equipment can be immersed in water for a long time under the conditions specified by the manufacturer.
